Naka Ward, a safe and vibrant community for all
– A great place to live, work or visit –

*The number under each measure indicates its relationship to the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals).

Five measures to achieve the goals

1. Creating a safe, secure, and healthy community for people to live in

We are working to promote urban development of a kind that enables us to properly respond to emergencies. This means not only safeguarding the daily lives of residents, but also includes consideration for non-residents who work in or come to visit Naka Ward.

【Main initiatives】 Initiatives to improve community disaster preparedness

In addition to supporting local self-preparedness and community support initiatives, we are working to raise awareness of disaster mitigation through the dissemination of disaster prevention information and community walks. In fiscal year 2021, we will further improve our community’s disaster preparedness by deploying partitions and other equipment at evacuation shelters and conducting disaster drills, with an awareness of putting in place appropriate measures to help prevent the spread of infectious diseases.

2. Creating a community in which people of all ages support each other

We will promote the development of a community in which everyone supports and helps each other, allowing anyone to continue to live their lives in familiar surroundings as they see fit.

【Main initiatives】 nakanaka iine! Initiatives to promote the Naka Ward Community Social Welfare and Health Plan

The Naka Ward Community Social Welfare and Health Plan (nakanaka iine!) was drawn up in an effort to promote community development so that everyone can live in the neighborhoods they’re familiar with, and have peace of mind, while supporting and helping each other. In fiscal year 2021, the fourth phase of the plan was formulated. With the goal of promoting “nakanaka iine!” among a wider range of people living and working in Naka Ward and encouraging them to get involved, we created a booklet and multilingual versions (Chinese and English) of the plan that make it easier for everyone to understand what the plan is all about, and held “nakanaka iine!” presentation sessions to raise awareness.

3. Creating a multicultural community

We will encourage the development of a diverse community where people of all nationalities and backgrounds can live happily together in harmony and mutual respect.

【Main initiatives】 Initiatives to encourage intercultural exchanges

In order to help non-Japanese residents living in Japan for the first time adapt to their new lives, we provide information and consultations on daily life matters, mainly at Naka International Lounge. In fiscal year 2021, we will actively collaborate with communities with many non-Japanese residents in a bid to build ties. In addition, we will find opportunities for foreign residents to become involved in volunteer work, and create opportunities for them to play an active role in the community, enabling them to become Naka Ward’s torchbearers of multicultural coexistence.

4. Creating a community brimming with local vitality

We will promote the development of a vibrant and energetic community where individuals and the wider community can take initiatives for themselves.

【Main initiatives】 Initiatives geared towards sports/young people

Through the promotion of sports and the sound development of young people in the community, we are working to improve the health of ward residents and create opportunities for interaction in the community. In fiscal year 2021, we will work to build momentum for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, strengthen cooperation among related organizations in the ward, and hold events to experience inclusive sports*.
*inclusive sports
Sports that can be played by anyone, regardless of disability, age, gender, nationality, etc.

5. Creating a ward office that works hand-in-hand with the local community

We will work to create a ward office that is sympathetic and trustworthy by providing administrative services that meet the needs of ward residents.

In order to create a sustainable society, Naka Ward will promote measures based on the goals of the SDGs.

Maintaining good dental and oral health will help you enjoy the pleasure of eating with your own teeth throughout your life and lead to a proper and balanced diet. It is also very important in preventing lifestyle-related diseases such as obesity and diabetes, which can affect your overall health.
